SAVE in the news - June 2024

It’s been a busy month at the presses with SAVE’s call for a debate in the Scottish Parliament on extra protection for listed buildings featuring in The Herald, The Scotsman, Urban Realm and Construction Now, among others. The Fence magazine awarded the Carbuncle Cup to the new Liverpool Lime Street development, naming it the worst in the UK, and SAVE gets a mention for our campaign to stop the demolition of the historic street and Futurist Cinema. Architects’ Journal covered the Carbuncle Cup and SAVE’s bid to have Medlock Mill in Manchester listed after a recent discovery revealed it could be the city’s oldest mill. The Times featured a story on Barlaston Hall near Stoke-on-Trent, which SAVE rescued in the 1980s. After being purchased for £1, the house has now been restored and is for sale for £3.5 million. The launch of SAVE’s Buildings at Risk Register 2024 was featured across the UK, including in The Scotsman, with special interest paid to the ailing Dunalastair Castle. Other features the BAR launch can be read at Wales Online, Manchester World, The Stoke Sentinel and Building Design Online. SAVE also got a mention in KentLive for its campaign protect the former Kent Hospital. The Guardian ran a great piece on our M&S Oxford Street competition after sending a journalist to cover the event.
