SAVE Walking Tour of Folkestone, Kent

With a history stretching back to Stone Age Britain and links to the Anglo-Saxon Kentish Royal Family, Folkestone boasts a wealth of historic buildings, reflecting its role as a major port and seaside resort.
Join SAVE Britain’s Heritage and Vice Chair of the New Folkestone Society Mark Hourahane to discover some of the gems saved and others in need of rescuing.
Enroute we will uncover a host of historic buildings and explore some of the challenges facing the town. From Victorian funicular railways to department stores and Art Deco flats, this tour will take in a host of buildings lost, buildings at risk, and success stories of buildings saved from the wrecking ball which have now been restored.
Tickets: £14 for Friends and £18 for general public

Meeting point: Folkestone Central Railway Station forecourt by taxi rank at 10.50
Finish point: Folkestone Harbour [a 20-minute walk back to the station]
Route: Generally easy terrain with some gentle gradients.
