The application process for the SAVE Britain's Heritage internships for 2022 is now open. The programme is in its second year and we are looking for two interns for six month part-time paid positions which will run consecutively.

The internships are open only to those who have not had a paid position in a heritage job before and who intend to seek a career in the sector. We would particularly welcome candidates from areas of the community not well represented in the heritage sector.

SAVE Britain’s Heritage is a high profile independent charity that campaigns for historic buildings under threat from demolition or decay. SAVE is at the forefront of national heritage conservation. We stand apart from other organisations by bringing together architects, engineers, planners and investors to offer alternative re-use proposals.

Internship:  Six months March to August 2022 OR September 2022 to February 2023

Part-time:  Four days a week, 32 hours a week (three days a week considered).

Location: Clerkenwell, central London with some flexible home working

Salary: £94.00 a day

You might be studying or have recently completed studies (undergraduate or post-graduate) or be looking to change careers. You will have a genuine enthusiasm for and knowledge of historic architecture and an understanding of how the planning system can protect it.  You will be willing to tackle a varied and busy workload independently with support from staff members and have the ability to work quickly and with flexibility to tight deadlines.  Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential for this position. The internships offer the opportunity of in-depth work experience and an insight into the historic built environment sector and is intended for those seeking a career in the sector.

We are a small, dynamic and friendly team, and this post will provide first-hand experience of a range of activities relevant to work in the historic built environment. You will work with our Conservation Officer to gain experience of heritage advocacy, including commenting on planning applications and assisting in research and analysis for current campaigns to save threatened buildings. You will also work with our Buildings at Risk Officer on updating our national database of buildings at risk and you will also support us in looking after our Friends and Saviours and organising events.

To apply, please send (1) CV and (2) a covering letter setting out why you would like this position and how you qualify to Leigh Stanford administrator@savebritainsheritage.org

The closing date for applications is Friday 21st January 2022. Interviews will take place on Tuesday 1st February and Wednesday 2nd February 2022 at our offices if restrictions allow, otherwise via Zoom.
