SAVE in the news - December 2022
The Times ran a prominent piece on Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud arguing that the culture of demolishing buildings is wasteful, singling out M&S Oxford Street as a particularly “lazy” example.
Welsh Heritage chief Chris Catling took up the story in history magazine The Past, mentioning a number of SAVE victories. And an opinion piece by our director Henrietta Billings appeared in construction industry magazine Building.
Meanwhile our Buildings at Risk officer Liz Fuller was on BBC Radio Cumbria talking about the fight to save Carlisle’s Turkish Baths.
And SAVE’s dramatic letter to Ayr’s councillors warning them not to be bounced into voting for demolition was splashed across the front page of the Ayrshire Post. It quoted SAVE’s argument that it would be cheaper and better to stabilise the Station Hotel and then take down the scaffolding – not the whole building!
