Join SAVE and Will Palin, CEO Barts Heritage, for a tour of the grade I-listed North Wing at St Bartholomew's Hospital. Learn about the hospital's fascinating history and gain an overview of some of the key buildings on site before exploring the spectacular James Gibbs Great Hall. On this special conservation tour explore the architecture and artisans responsible for the intricate craftsmanship while witnessing the ongoing conservation efforts up close including on a scaffold. The tour will also take in the cleaning, conservation and repair of the canvases painted by William Hogarth in the Hogarth staircase. Join conservators for tea and coffee to discuss intriguing recent discoveries, as renovations continue.
Will Palin, was appointed CEO of Barts Heritage in 2019, he is an architectural historian, writer, campaigner and heritage expert. He was a curator at Sir John Soane’s Museum until 2007 then director of SAVE Britain’s Heritage. Most recently he worked as Conservation Director at the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich where he led the multi-award-winning Painted Hall conservation project. Will has lectured widely on 18th- and 19th-century art and architecture. He is a trustee of the Georgian Group and the Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College.
