Join SAVE Britain's Heritage and Amicia de Moubray for a walking tour of Canterbury during the Heritage EXPO 2024. Learn about the city's history and the use of Mathematical Tiles in its buildings. We'll also visit the peaceful Franciscan Gardens, part of the first Franciscan settlement in England, established in 1224. This tour offers an informative look at Canterbury's architectural heritage and historic sites and it will take place in-between the free lectures offered during the Heritage EXPO.
SAVE Britain’s Heritage has also published Canterbury Take Care, edited by Amicia de Moubray, which delves into Canterbury's architectural evolution from Anglo-Saxon times to post-war redevelopment. With a foreword by Griff Rhys Jones, the report sheds light on the lasting impact of World War II on the city’s fabric and its significance as a centre of national religious identity. It also offers thoughtful reflections on the planning challenges the city faces today and the importance of preserving its heritage for future generations.
Amicia de Moubray is a journalist who has written on architecture, heritage, and design topics for many years. Author of 20th Century British Castles. Editor of SAVE Britain’s Heritage Saving Thanet: The Architecture of Kent’s Forgotten Coast and Canterbury Take Care! She is a trustee of the Sir John Soane Museum, Bart’s Heritage and the Sheerness Dockyard Preservation Trust.
