Manchester’s Historic Buildings: Lost, Saved and in the Balance

Join SAVE and Professor Michael Hebbert who will reveal some of the issues facing the city’s historic buildings; lost, saved and in the balance, including two significant saves that for many years looked more like losses.
These will include the police and fire station, Joshua Hoyle Warehouse, Brownfields Mill and the Ancoats Infirmary. The climax of the walk will be Murrays Mill which was featured in this year's SAVE annual lecture as an example of good practice but 40 years ago was very nearly lost and 20 years ago was put back in the balance by a bizarre scheme to rip out much of the meticulous conservation work of Ken Moth for the Ancoats BPT.
Tickets: £12 for Friends and Saviours, £16 for members of the public
Meeting and end point: At the top of the ramp, outside the main entrance to Manchester Piccadilly Station.
Route: The walk is generally easy and mostly off road, it is approximately 2 miles and there will be some stairs.
