Update on Winstanley Hall campaign

SAVE remains committed to saving Winstanley Hall, an imposing but derelict Grade II* listed country house outside Wigan, from demolition. The Hall has an unusual and fine complex of listed courtyard buildings including a 17th century tithe barn and stables and coach houses faced with rugged stone work and topped with wooden pavilionesque finials. Together with the owner, Kierstan Boylan of Dorbcrest Homes, SAVE has been working hard to secure grant money to fund emergency repairs to the courtyard buildings adjacent to the hall. An application for 80% has been submitted to English Heritage. The total cost of the work is approximately £250,000. We hope to be able to go out to tender in the next few months and once emergency repairs are complete we can proceed to the next stages of the replica rolex project: full repair and conversion of the courtyard buildings for work and residential units, possibly served by a cafe, and emergency repairs leading full repairs of the Hall.

The Replica Rolex Daytona is the first classic of the motorsport year, and its stature continues to grow. The challenge to race twice around the clock, at the very first event of the season, truly tests the mettle of both competitors and the machinery.

In October 2012 a group of Trustees and the Secretary of the Country Houses Foundation visited the site and Anna Keay, Director of the Landmark Trust, made a site visit in December.
