BaR News Roundup - February 2022

Blackborough Hall, Devon

This month we'll be focussing on buildings at risk across the South West, with news already in that Blackborough Hall in Devon, an early Victorian grade II listed Italianate mansion, finally has a restoration plan in place. With a long history of gradual decline, permission for conversion to a single residence plus two apartments within the footprint of the hall has now been granted.

Tonedale Mills, Somerset

In another long-running case, Somerset West and Taunton Council have just served an Urgent Works Notice for repair work to be carried out to one part of the massive grade II* listed Tonedale Mills site near Wellington in Somerset. This welcome intervention follows a series of actions the council has taken on the site over the last couple of years to ensure the proper care of and an overall plan for this landmark site.

Scalegill Hall Farm, Cumbria

We have also objected to plans submitted by the owner of grade II Listed Scalegill Hall near Whitehaven in Cumbria, to demolish the historic barn and adjoining farm buildings around the hall. Further details on these buildings can be found here.
