Trust buys Moat Brae House

SAVE Britain’s Heritage is thrilled to announce a successful conclusion to the Moat Brae House saga, a splendid listed Georgian villa in Dumfries which was literally days away from being flattened.

Moat Brae has now been purchased by the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust. A joint press release was issued on the 30 September by the trust and Loreburn Housing Association confirming that ownership has been transferred and that a major restoration project can now commence.

As the garden at Moat Brae House was the inspiration behind JM Barrie’s Peter Pan, it is fitting that the emphasis of potential new uses be children and literature. It is hoped that such a restoration project might be a catalyst for the regeneration of Dumfries.

SAVE helped to raise awareness about this case and was delighted to find itself in a position to offer an interest free loan to the Trust towards the purchase price. However, with the immediate future secured, the Trust must now begin work on fundraising to cover the cost of restoration.

The Trust still needs lots of help and support. To get in contact with them, email friends@moatbrae.org or visit their website for further information www.moatbrae.org.
